You know how Fox is a horrible, evil Republican mouthpiece? Turns out that may not actually be the case. According to Good Guide’s interactive display of corporate political contributions (which is sourced from the Center for Responsive Politics, ie OpenSecrets.org), 20th Century Fox gave over $500,000 to Democrats between 2001 and 2008, while only $34,000 to Republicans. (There was no entry for the News Corp. parent company.) In fact, of all organizations classified as Media and Entertainment, only Clear Channel Communications fell clearly into the Republican camp, while Disney, Viacom, and NBC (among others) overtly supported the Dems.

Of the 100 top all-time donors 1989-2010, 32 are classified as leaning, strongly, or solidly Republican (meaning 60% or more of their contributions go to the GOP), while 33 are on the fence, meaning between 40% and 59% of giving goes to both parties. While the Dems get 35 of the top 100 slots, they hold 14 out of the top 20 spots, with 3 each from that 20 going to the GOP and to the fence.
