Inhofe’s list of scientists is frequently trotted out by global warming denialists as a rejoinder, proving there indeed is a “debate” and no scientific consensus.
Here’s a collection of links exposing Inhofe’s phony list business. Inhofe’s “scientists” include economists, the retired, television weathermen, mathmeticians, amateurs and industry spokespersons. Worse, some of the “prominent scientists” listed in Inhofe’s report have publicly stated that Inhofe is misrepresenting them as skeptics. In fact, just google Inhofe 650 and you can immediately have this nonsense debunked.
And here’s a breakdown of each entry on the list (when the list was 650, not 700).
Thanks for the info; I’ll check these out. Be that as it may, are we really so willing to conclude that A) consensus has been reached; B) there is no real, viable debate from real scientists [see, for example, the open letter to Congress’s brief list]; C) debate is unneccessary and perhaps even that “global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers”; and D) there is no financial or other powerful incentive for “greenies” to push their ideas?
It seems to me that much of the scientific community is being very unscientific in its attempts to force out discussion.
